Day 1. FROM CUSCO
CITY TO MOLLEPATA
Leaving Cusco very early in the morning and after traveling
three and a half hours, we arrive at a very small indigenous
village called Mollepata, located in the Limatambo valley.
After a restful break, we are joined by muleteers, horses
and mules waiting to guide us throughout the rest of the day,
passengers will have the opporturúty to choose between a
horseback riding and trekking. We will start the journey
climbing a slight slope which later opens into an incredible
view of Huamantay 18,500 feet(5917 meters).
As we approach the
high plateau of Soraypampa, our next campsite, we are
greeted with an impressive view of Salcantay, the Inka's Apu
(God of the lnkas).
We continue hiking
for three kilometers from this village towards SORAYPAMPA,
in a small farming area called SORAY 12000 feet (3299 meters),
along our journey to the Vilcabamba range.
Day 2. FROM SORAYPAMPA TO INCACHIRIASCA AND ACOBAMBA
After a brisk Andean morning with a breathtaking views,
the sun warms our small plateau. We will start our day
climbing through Altiplano which leads to the highest pass,
lncachiriasca 15000 feet (5000 meters approx). At the top of
the pass, we see a panoramic view of Salcantay and the
surrounding area. We have the first contacts with the snow
in Salcantay Mountain right in the pass. As the trail
descends we pass close to the glacier and can see the
structure of the huge ice formations from different
perspectives.After two and a half hours of descent, we
arrive at our campsite Acobamba where we can see the east
side of Salcantay and a part of the Vilcanota range (Mt.
Veronika, at 18500 feet 5750 meters).
Day 3. FROM ACOBAMBA TO CUSCO CITY
Once more, the warmth of the Andean sun will break our brisk
morning. Our last day begins with a descent into a large
pasture of lchu Via an old lndian trail carved into the
mountainside. We will encounter high plateaus, tambos and
pampas along the trek. Here, the indigenous people, dressed
in traditional clothing, spend their days working on small
plots of land.
After a visit to
the ruins of Paucarcancha, our day will finish with a visit
to Patallacta ruins, an important archaeological center
located in the National Park of Machu Picchu. We return to
Cusco city by car, leaving from 82 Km.
